The new Time Out Market Dubai opened its doors to the public on the 7th of April. This isn’t my first experience, as I loved the original Time Out Market in Lisbon when I was there back in the summer of 2017, and I was looking forward to visiting Dubai’s own version to try a selection of dishes from some of the city’s top culinary names there.
Located in Downtown Dubai in the Souq Al Bahar, the Time Out Market boasts no less than 17 different restaurant brands and 3 bars. We love the concept of having them all under one roof, but narrowing down your choices down can be quite tough. Plus, it’s VERY popular! We got there at 8pm on a Thursday and walked straight in, but struggled to find a table. By the time we left at 9:30pm, there was a queue of no less than 100 people waiting to get in.
We were specifically here for tasters and to get a feel for the place. We narrowed our choices down to 5 restaurants, made our orders, received our beepers and hunted for a table. Just like clockwork, one buzzer went off just as we sat down, then next buzzer went and so on and so forth, until we had all 5 dishes ready to tuck in.
First up, we had ordered the Chicken Bang Bang from BB Social Dining – Modern Eastern Bites and Baos, which is a steamed and toasted bao bun filled with crispy chicken, spicy sauce, and topped with parmesan cheese. We highly recommend it!
Next up from Long Teng – Dim Sum and Chinese Seafood, we picked the Steamed Dim Sum Platter with Chicken Xiaolong Bun (soup dumpling), Crystal Prawn Dumpling, Prawn & Chinese Cabbage Dumpling, and a Scallop & Chicken Sew Mai. We really like the options of small bites at the Time Out Market and trying out the many different flavours.
From Vietnamese Foodies – Authentic Southern Vietnamese, we chose the Viet Appetizer Platter with the Prawn Summer Roll, Duck Grilled Roll, Seafood Ravioli and Coconut Prawn Tempura. I love Vietnamese food since my travels to Ho Chi Minh City, but it’s not a cuisine we eat often in the UAE so we will look into trying out more of their dishes in their main JLT branch closer to home.
From the Folly Workshop – Modern British, we ordered the Pulled and Smoked Shortrib and Mustard Brioche. We recommend this one too!
And last but not least, from Masti – Global Cuisine, Inspired by India, we ordered the Pulled Chicken Tikka & Dosa Waffle with charcoal roasted dhaba style chicken. These are the styles of foods you want to be eating here and they’re the perfect thing to share as a couple.
This is a fun place to come with a small group of friends as there is something for everyone. If you have a vegan amongst you, Little Erth is there with their plant-based dishes. You can even have a drink looking out to The Dubai Fountain which is especially great to bring visitors, day or night. Overall, a highly sociable and enjoyable experience!
