Vikram hosts superb supper clubs, and we were fortunate to nab a table at one of his Dubai Eats pop-ups. What a treat this was, not only to eat his deliciously expressive cuisine, but to meet the man himself who has built quite a highly regarded reputation amongst all the independent culinary greats found in our delectable city.
Feast your eyes upon the following dishes we literally scraped clean, much to Vikram’s approval. First up on the menu was The Omani Prawns glazed in Irish butter and olive oil infused with homemade organic Malvani spices that you could mop up with slices of warm baguette served on the side. Go all in with fingers, the way they are intended to be eaten. You are going to splatter that white tablecloth – you can’t pretend that a knife and fork will save you from the massacre you are about to perform. It’s worth all the mess!
The Chicken Tacos of hormone-free chicken chunks in tomato sauce were moreish wraps topped with baby tomato salsa, potato sticks and fresh coriander. These were followed by the Fish Parcel deliciousness – succulent sea bass steaks with onions and heirloom tomatoes wrapped in banana leaves and steamed in Bahraini inspired spices.
And the dish we could have eaten twice over was The Summer Curry! I adore mussels, and these New Zealanders in coconut milk with mustard seeds and curry leaves were a riot of sumptuous flavour. It was served with rice or bread, and we needed both to make sure we got every last drop of sauce out of those bowls. Mission very much accomplished!
The Pudding was a light Mango Rasgulla by The Sweet Story, which had wonderful flavours and texture for a beautiful end to a wonderful evening of food mastery. We will be on the lookout to make more bookings to The Curry Bureau’s next rendezvouses in order to try more of his surprise menus. These are evenings well spent.
