We felt it was time to treat ourselves (as we so often do these days) and revisit one of our firm favourites, the much-loved Orfali Bros, to try some of the new menu items we’ve had our eye on.
First off was a particularly extravagant indulgence we could not resist – the Caviar Bun with Smetana (a type of sour cream from Central and Eastern Europe) and Kaluga Caviar comes with a hefty price at AED49.5 a bite (that’s two mouthfuls for a total of AED99). If you are not a glutton, you may be able to stretch it to three bites and savour it that tiny bit longer. Be warned, you will regret sharing this one! Be wise, and be selfish. The bun is the lightest and most perfect spherical beignet handsomely propped up with a smudge of smetana and coiffed with a good head of Polish Kaluga Caviar that melts like butter in your mouth.
If you listen hard enough, you’ll hear a symphony playing in the background with every bite… It may seem like a high price to pay for a morsel, and it will rack up your bill, but you have to understand and adore fine quality caviar to take this on and say, “Yes, yes please, I am worth it!”
The OB Croquettes with celeriac, comté cheese and truffle mayo are still such a fantastic amuse-bouche, and as long as they stay on the menu, we’ll continue to start with one of these. The Adobo Chicken Wings stuffed with rice, adorned with sesame, black pepper, and spring onion is in our opinion one of the best available in Dubai.
I do crave a good beef burger every now and then, but I am very difficult to please as my partner in crime will attest to. Now however, I can finally say I have found the perfect burger for my fix, and it wasn’t even my order! Though I did make sure to give it a good taste test to be 100% sure... The Ultimate Burger with wagyu beef, brioche bun, Monterey Jack cheese, mushrooms, and shiitake mayo is so juicy, tasty and absolutely finger licking delicious.
We ordered the Patatas Bravas Triple-cooked Chips with bravas sauce and aioli as a side, and it’s one of those rare times we’ve disagreed on a dish. It’s the first item from the menu I have not enjoyed. They got cold very quickly, losing their outer crunch maybe due to all the sauce on them, and I found them dry to swallow. You win some, you lose some.
The last dish of the night was the Orfali Noff with beef tenderloin, mushrooms, sour cream, and paprika, Mohamed Orfali’s outstanding take on the classic Beef Stroganoff, served with a bowl of sticky rice. It’s a delicious bowlful of rich comfort food, perfect for a cool winter’s evening, that we both tucked in to with relish.
We’ve never yet passed up Omar and Wassim’s dessert display, and tonight was no exception. After careful and extensive consideration, we finally chose the beautifully sculpted and delicate Mandarina: Rice Pudding, and the Aleppo Pistachio & Raspberry Cake which revealed 6 different textured layers of rich pistachio and one luscious layer of raspberry accent to marry it all together.
As always, it was a gastronomical odyssey, and an absolute pleasure to visit!
