Nothing can deter 21grams from being our most favourite place in Dubai. The stylish Balkan Bistro has had a minor makeover recently, both aesthetically in their interior, and on their menu. They’re now that little bit bigger on the inside, providing more room for guests whilst remaining just as lovely and cosy as before, though with even more natural light to bring out all those warm, earthy hues. 21grams continuously exemplifies everything that they stand for.
Starters are now offered as a tier of 3 stacked choices, allowing extra space on the table for the other plates to follow. The chicken liver pâté is still on the menu, much to our relief, as we have neglected to order it, but it has greatly changed in presentation and has somehow been enhanced in flavour. Trust us when we say we never believed it could have tasted better than it already had. It is superb!
And it’s not just the pâté – you have to try the new take on the Sarma of sour cabbage rolls with minced beef and order the perfectly cheesy grilled polenta side to have with it. We also ordered the Dalmatian Pasticada of slow-cooked beef short rib stew with distinct notes of cinnamon, served with homemade pasta and aged cheese. The second I took that first bite, I turned to say I had just tasted a mouthful of Christmas. Little did we know, it is in fact a Balkan Christmas dish, and it’s really quite special when you can taste a season in a dish!
A complete sucker for a dessert and espresso to end a perfect luncheon, I was tempted into trying the chocolate hazelnut baklava with vanilla ice cream all to myself with absolutely no disappointments or regrets!
A new look, and new enhanced taste sensations. They’ve done their homework, learning from all their experiences to-date to take things to another level, and this is exactly what 21grams are all about and what makes them so special. They are constantly evolving and surprising their most loyal returning soul mates.
“21 grams, the weight of a human soul.” A beautiful sentiment, no?
